Skin flooding means layering three to four lightweight hydrators on damp skin, one right after the other, so each layer pulls water deeper into the skin instead of letting it evaporate. The result: plump, dewy skin without heavy creams. Here is the exact 4-step method, plus who should skip it.
[TORRIDEN] DIVE IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Toner 300ml
A 5-layer hyaluronic toner made for flooding — splash it on damp skin as your water-grabbing first layer.
Shop NowWhy damp skin changes everything
The trick behind skin flooding is timing. Water softens the outermost layer of your skin, making it far more receptive to humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Apply those same products to dry skin and much of the benefit is lost — humectants can even pull moisture out when the air is dry. If you are not sure whether your skin lacks water or oil, our quick guide to dry vs dehydrated skin settles it in 30 seconds.
The 4-step skin flooding method
Step 1 — Mist or toner on damp skin. Cleanse, then do not towel off completely. Within 60 seconds, press a hydrating toner into skin with your palms. No cotton pads — they soak up half the product.
Step 2 — A humectant booster. While skin is still wet from step 1, layer a watery booster or serum with low-molecular hyaluronic acid. Smaller molecules sink deeper; larger ones hold water at the surface. You get both plumpness and glow.
[TORRIDEN] DIVE IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Skin Booster 200ml
Watery, fragrance-free and endlessly layerable — the ideal step-2 flood layer for thirsty skin.
Shop NowStep 3 — An essence for the in-between. One more thin, water-based layer keeps the flood going and preps skin for the seal. Fermented essences add a subtle tone-evening bonus while you hydrate.
[COSRX] Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence 100ml
A cult fermented essence that slips between watery layers and evens tone while you flood.
Shop NowStep 4 — Seal it. All that water needs a lid. Finish with a light gel-cream within a minute of your last layer. Skip this step and the water you just layered evaporates — taking some of your skin’s own moisture with it.
[TORRIDEN] DIVE IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Cream 80ml
A weightless gel-cream lid that locks the whole flood in without clogging pores.
Shop NowWho should (and shouldn’t) flood
Skin flooding shines on dehydrated, dull, or combination skin — and it is a gentler route to glow than actives. Very oily or acne-prone skin should stick to two layers max, since over-layering can trap oil and trigger congestion. Keep it to 3–4 products; more is diminishing returns. And if you are choosing your humectant, our snow mushroom vs hyaluronic acid comparison breaks down which holds water better.
Flooding slots neatly into the hydration steps of a classic Korean Skincare routine — see our full routine guide for where it fits morning and night.
FAQ
How often can I do skin flooding? Daily, morning or night. Most people see the biggest payoff in the evening after cleansing.
Can I use actives like retinol on flooding nights? Yes — flood first on damp skin, wait until fully dry, then apply your active, or simply alternate nights.
Do I need all four products? No. Toner + cream is a mini-flood. Add the middle layers when skin feels extra tight.
